FAQ's and Info
What is the best type of Broadhead to use for bear.
At Bearbusters we prefer you use fixed broadheads. Use a broadhead with at least 7/8 th of an inch (this is the legal minimum). I prefer a 1" cut with either 3 or 4 blades. If the bear is thick with fat the small broadhead will zip through and not leave an open wound, making it almost impossible to track your animal. If you have ever hunted with us you will know how important a good blood trail is when looking for your bear in the thick underbrush of our area.
Mechanical heads are very effective when hunting animals like deer with large lung area and little or no fat. The fat and thick hair on a bear will cause the blades to open at the wrong time resulting in a hit bear that we are unable to track. I will not say we never recover bears shot with mechanical broadheads and some mechanical do an excellent job but over all I would prefer you the hunter to use fixed broadheads. Cut on contact broadheads are very strong and have impressed all of us at bearbusters.
What is required to bring guns into Canada
A permit is required to bring guns into Canada. This permit is available from the downloads page on this website. You can print then off from there. You will need 3 coppies ( one for the border, one for Canada, one for your person) If you have them filled out prior to arriving at the border it will make crossing easier and often you will not have to show or unpack your guns. I cannot separate one page from the download so be sure to select print page 3,4,5. and not all the instructions associated with them.
If I choose to hunt with a bow can I still bring a gun?
Yes you are welcome to use a gun if you are having trouble getting a bow shot, unless you have chosen to hunt in a bow only camp. There is no difference in tags and a hunter is welcome to use what ever weapon he or she chooses, the only clause is no gun hunting allowed on Sundays. You can bring along a bow or crossbow to use on Sundays or take a day off hunting.
